SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, Jan. 30 (PIA) — In response to the Millenium Development Goal to eradicate poverty incidence in the country, various partner agencies of the Department of Social and Welfare Development 1 (DSWD R1) offered their programs and projects to 100 Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4P) beneficiaries in the municipality of Sugpon, Ilocos Sur during the Convergence Caravan held recently in said municipality.According to Alan Lulu, DSWD-1 info officer, this convergence seeks to provide adequate livelihood opportunities or projects to 4P’s to increase their household income.
Among its partner agencies include Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources offering 500 fingerlings to persons who are members of organizations and have available fish cages; and college scholarships for fishermen’s children.
Department of Labor and Employment, on the other hand, introduced its Student Program Employment Service or SPES available to children ages 15 to 25 years old.
The Department of Trade and Industry offered skills training, processing and manufacturing of raw materials for livelihood, market promotion, market product matching and financial facilitation.
Agustina Abluyen, one of the 4P’s beneficiaries said, “Idi, haan kami nakapag Day Care ken haan mi pay makita ti ruangan ti RHU. Ita maited ti kasapulanen ti ubbing gapu ti Pantawid Pamilya”(Before, we did not have the opportunity to avail of Day Care Services and we did not even see the RHU doors. But now, children’s needs are being provided because of Pantawid Pamilya).
Convergence Regional Project Coordinator Virginia Sesay commended the Local Government Unit here and 3 agencies for their support and partnership with the DSWD1 in providing services for the Pantawid Pamilya claim holders.
Sesay encouraged the beneficiaries to continue complying with the conditions of the program for them to continuously access it for the improvement of their lives. (ANL/MHH PIA1 La Union with reports from DSWD1)
