Culinary grads showcase cuisines at the ‘Candon’s Chef on Parade’

CANDON CITY, (PIA) — At least 45 delicious food menus grouped into seven international cuisines were showcased in the “Chefs on Parade” contest held at the Candon Beach Resort last Saturday. The competition is one of the main highlights of the 2011 Feria De Candon Trade and Festival set from Dec. 1 to 7.

Former Deputy Speaker Eric D. Singson said the contest was held to further evaluate the capability of the graduates from the Candon Culinary Academy (CCA) which he founded in 2009.

“We realized this competition to hone the cooking skills of our local graduates who attended the series of culinary training offered by our culinary school,” he said.

He said least 100 local residents from the second district of Ilocos Sur had already completed the six-month culinary training, while about 250 residents had finished the one week special training.

“Our graduates were grouped into eight to prepare the 45 dishes from the seven international cuisines such as the French, the Thai and Viet Cuisine, Mediterranean, Chinese, American, Japanese, and Italian cuisines. Each group had also prepared one dish of Filipino Cuisine,” he said.
The group who prepared the Japanese cuisine won the first place. The Thai and Viet Cuisine and French Cuisine won the second and third places, respectively. (Freddie G. Lazaro/PIA –Ilocos Sur)

by Carlo P. Canares

(ANL/CPC-PIA Ilocos Norte)
